"'I need to hear you say it. I need to know you’re mine.'

'I’ve been yours since the second we met'"

(McGuire 540)

This book centers around Abby Abernathy, the good girl in college who has a dark past. Travis Maddox, the bad guy, encounters with Abby. She is disgusted by him due to his reputation. He is known as the tough, tattooed covered guy that sleeps with a lot of girls. No one knows who the true Travis is, until Abby came around. Abby's dorm building's boiler room stops working, so her best friend, America, insists they stay with America's boyfriend at his apartment. However, America's boyfriend, Shepley, is Travis's cousin, and they live with each other. Not only does Abby live with Travis now, she sleeps with him on his bed. Abby gets to know more and more about Travis. Travis is an underground fighter, so he invites Abby to one of his fights. They make a bet, and Abby ends up losing. Since Abby loses, she has to stay with Travis for another month.

Throughout half of the story, they are just friends. However, Abby just says they are friends, but she doesn't want to admit that she is in love with Travis. Travis falls deeply in love with Abby. He gets over protected and jealous with Abby. Especially when Abby starts going on dates with Parker Hayes. Travis takes care of her and watches after her no matter what goes between them. Once Abby moves out, he gives it his all to win her heart. Their love story isn't what we see in movies, it is a really cruel love/hate story.
